Evaluation of Predictive validity for the Pressure Ulcer Risk Assessment Tool

Abstract
The purposes of this study were to evaluate the applicability of pressure ulcer risk assessment tool the tool used was that developed by Shannon(1984).
The subjects of this study were 323 patients in intensive care units. Data were prospectively from Jan 5 to July 15, 1998.
Data were analyzed by mean, percentage, chisquare, and stepwise multiple regression.
The results of the study are as follows;
1. By using the 19cut-off point, sensitivity was 56.13% and specificity was 60.12% on the Shannon scale. The factors that will predict pressure ulcer development are nutritional condition, incontinence, and circulation, and there is a positive relationship between low scoring and pressure ulcer development.
2. The prevalence of the pressure ulcer is 48.0%, and the incidence of the pressure ulcer is 33.7%.
3. The most common pressure ulcer site is the hip(32.04%) and the next is the sacrum (22.82%).
4. Additional pressur ~ ulcer risk factor is a hemoglobin level
